Wolverines' nation-best bowl streak in jeopardy
by David Mayo The Grand Rapids Press
ANN ARBOR -- In this season when Michigan has become Michigan State, and vice versa, the importance of the bowl pursuit for a team which has not white-knuckled its way into postseason for many years never has been greater.
There seems little dispute, even from the most ardent Michigan fans, that extending the Wolverines record of 33 consecutive bowls faces severe examination these final seven Saturdays.
They are 2-3, with hard-core skeptics saying Toledo could hang tough today at Michigan Stadium.
The countdown to six victories for bowl qualification is under way. Toledo is a must-have. Today is the closest thing to a gimme on the schedule, with the Wolverines favored by 16 1/2 points, the last time they will see such a number this season. Unless its against them.
Michigan's bowl streak dates back to the 1975 season, which ended with an Orange Bowl loss to Oklahoma on New Year's Day, 1976.
The Wolverines were standards of stability.

Who gives a fuck about the bowl streak? What is Michigan's record in the bowls? The bowl streak is one of those meaningless statistics, like the countless wins MIchigan has racked up against its notoriously weaker conference opponents.
What matters is, first, to at least look competent. Second, start winning.
I'm optimistic that once RR does get this thing working, Michigan will start ticking of numbers that really matter: national championships.
But for now, who gives a fuck about bowl streaks.
Well I care about the bowl streak for several reasons.
For starters it gives this team 15 more practices and something to look forward too instead of going back working their ass of with Barwis.
Also it is pretty nice to say you have or had the longest bowl streak in the country ... kind of like people say we have the most wins, highest percentage, the biggest house, etc...

Yeah, but right now, it's the least of the team's problems. Baby steps....
