Mailbag question: Coach Rod on the sidelines
Coach Rod's actions on the sidelines.
What do you guys think about him and how he acts?
I like his passion and pride, etc., and his wanting the best for the kids, but how he shows himself on TV does nothing for me.
Do you guys think his attitude and also how he presents himself on TV might lose recruits by how he acts?
Too many people say coach rod acts like Bo, but that was 40 years ago and people have changed how to coach and treat players. You do not see coaches like Pete Carroll, Urban Meyer, Mack Brown, Jim Tressel, Les Miles, Bob Stoops, etc. do this.

Thanks for the question.
That is Coach Rod’s personality. He is as fiery and passionate as they come.
If you think he is crazy at games you ought to see him at practices. In fact his fire and passion are things we here love about him. There are times when that type of emotion is warranted and even desired. There are other times when a calmer head and teaching is needed. A good coach can separate the two times.
Every kid is going to be different; there are some recruits that Coach Rod’s antics might put off. There are others who want that type of assertiveness from a head coach.
Our bottom line is Michigan knew what they were getting when they hired Coach Rodriguez, a 100% old school fire and brimstone football coach, not a pretty fluff boy.
We have no problem with Coach Rod undressing (lighting up) a player who needs it, all coaches do this. We just wish he had not done it on national television with the cameras on him throughout the game.

I like it myself. I've seen Bo, Woody, Lombardi, etc. go off on the sidelines. Those with weak constitutions should stay home or watch "Dancing with the Stars." Football is a tough game, requiring tough players and they need a smart and tough coach. We have one at Michigan.
These complaints about sideline demeanor are another evidence of the "sackless" nature of our fanbase.
Coaches chew kids out, and RR did what most coaches do. Maybe the asses who watch our games and complain probably never put the other teams coach under the microscope like they do RR. THese folks are doing this only because they hate RR,deep down, and look for anything and everything to bitch about him.
Heck where the $%^& were these folks when Lloyd chewed out Mallett during the Illinois and MSU game in 07??.. right, they were spending the time and energy proclaiming how great a Michigan Man LC was, and tell you what this LC is the embodiment of the "MIchigan Man" meme is a recent bullshit that was started by folks, who in their heart of hearts don't want to see M as an athletic powerhouse, so LC's general lack of fire in his final years played into their hands perfectly.
Its a commonly know fact that LC wanted the kids to have a regular under grad experience, this started to have adverse effects on our football team in his final years and was one of the main reasons for the lack of talent and depth in RR's first year. Sure RR's completely new system and the DC bungling had its own effects but denying that LC's lack of player development and to a lesser extent lack of sound recruiting hurt us equally last year and also a quite a bit this year..at least on D.
We are a football factory, please get that into your brains and move on, the insistence that this isn't true really bothersome, and shows the delusional nature of our fanbase.
