SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- If only the rest of the Michigan Wolverines were as sure-handed as Sam McGuffie.
McGuffie, the freshman running back sensation, was the bright spot in a dreary day, as Michigan lost, 35-17, to Notre Dame on Saturday.
He had 25 carries for 131 yards, and had four catches for 47 yards, including a 40-yard touchdown pass from Steven Threet late in the first quarter.
"Sam runs hard, he continues to get better," Michigan coach Rich Rodriguez said. "He'll keep getting better. We have a good crew of running backs. I'd like to get Mike Shaw more reps today, but he missed most of the week of practice (because of a groin injury). He's better, but he's not 100 percent. We'll get him cranked hopefully in time for the next one."
McGuffie was not made available for postgame interviews.
