McGuffie becomes real deal

Borrowing from Michigan coach Rich Rodriguez's assessment of the Wolverines' quarterback play in the second game -- he referenced the movie, "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly" -- let's take a look in those terms at the Wolverines' 35-17 loss at Notre Dame on Saturday.

It would be easy, really easy, to start with "the ugly" after Michigan lost six turnovers, but the harder task might be to look at things half full. The Wolverines are 1-2 as they head into an off weekend. Here goes:

The really good
Freshman tailback Sam McGuffie has emerged as the bona fide real-deal on this team. He runs hard, he slithers through defenders and he gets yards when needed. McGuffie also does the one thing all great backs do -- he gets better as the game wears on.
