Notre Dame coach Charlie Weis said his "to hell with Michigan" comment made earlier this spring to Notre Dame boosters was actually a tip of the cap to the late, legendary Michigan coach, Bo Schembechler.
Weis participated in a teleconference with the media Tuesday and said he was grateful for the opportunity to make clear his intentions with that comment.
"Anyone who is a Michigan fan should know and understand that that comment pays respect to Bo and his mentality when playing an opponent," Weis said. "As a matter of fact, (Bo's son) Shemy Schembechler and I had a big chuckle over this, this summer during training camp.
