SOUTH BEND, Ind. — The strength of Michigan’s team — its defense — was neutralized by six turnovers on offense.

But UM also struggled at times to defend Notre Dame’s deep passing attack and ground game.

Clausen and Tate also connected on a slant pass that Tate took 60 yards to the UM 25, setting up Notre Dame’s fourth touchdown in the first half.

“We had some miscommunications in the secondary,” said UM cornerback Morgan Trent, who led his team with nine tackles and also intercepted Clausen twice.
