Latest U-M loss feels like worst ever
There was little reason to think that on a bright, sunny, warm October Saturday at Michigan Stadium that the Toledo Rockets would offer a huge challenge to the Michigan Wolverines.
No, this wasn't a highly ranked Michigan team. In fact, it wasn't ranked at all and was 2-3. But this was Toledo, a below-middle-of-the-road Mid-American Conference team that was 1-4, had lost three straight at home, including 31-0 to Ball State, and was giving up nearly 36 points a game.
Maybe you wisely took Toledo and the points, but did you really think Michigan would lose Saturday? Can you believe it did? Michigan fell 13-10 in what many readers have said in e-mail was a worse loss than Appalachian State last season. That one can be debated, but based on conversations with fans, this sure feltworse.
This was an opportunity for Michigan, smarting after a 45-20 loss to Illinois a week earlier, to pull to .500. The goal now is bowl eligibility, and that goal got tougher to reach with the Toledo loss. Michigan needs six wins, but at 2-4 with six games remaining, the concern is this -- can it win four of those final games?
