Finishing in fourth hasn't been so bad in CCHA
Spartans placed there two years ago and won NCAA, then Irish got to final game from the spot.

ANN ARBOR -- Michigan and Michigan State might want to think about finishing fourth in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association this season.

It's proved to be a good thing.

The Spartans finished fourth two years ago when they won the national championship. Notre Dame finished fourth last season, then defeated CCHA champion Michigan in the Frozen Four before falling to Boston College in the national championship game.

"I guess it wouldn't be too bad, would it?" said Michigan coach Red Berenson, who begins his 25th season and expects U-M to contend with Notre Dame, Miami and MSU for the title.
