Rodriguez needs to have zero tolerance for goofs
Times change. New coaches arrive. Comparisons can't help but be drawn.
I got caught reflecting Saturday after Michigan's demolition derby against Illinois produced a 45-20 victory for the Illini at Michigan Stadium.
Into the interview room stepped Wolverines coach Rich Rodriguez after a defeat as dismaying as any Michigan football has endured in years, maybe decades.
He was fuming -- for Rodriguez. But compared with how Bo Schembechler would behave after a loss, Rodriguez was downright affable.
Schembechler would emerge from the locker room after a defeat and the combination of a volcanic eruption and thunderstorm would break loose all in one cataclysmic performance.
He would spew rage, fury, intolerance, betrayal, revenge -- and then he would get mad.
