Mailbag Question: Is it time to move on?
Is it time to move on and get behind this program instead of keep bringing up Les Miles, West Virginia, and all the other stuff over the past year?
Where do you see this program going? Do you see it going in the right direction?
Hank

Thanks for the question. Until Coach Rod starts winning, a certain segment of Michigan fans which undoubtedly bring up Coach Miles and express their wishes that he were here at Michigan. The choice of coach is an argument that will be rehashed for some time until Coach Rod starts winning.
In addition, the fans that support Coach Rod need to stop bringing up Coach Miles as well. It seems they are the ones that keep rehashing these issues especially after LSU loses a game. Would rather be 7-5 in the SEC with a fourth string quarterback and playing three top 10 teams this year, coming off a National Championship and going to a bowl game (ANY bowl game) then being 3-9, not going to a bowl game and looking at the worst year in Michigan Football history.
I can only speak for US, but we support Coach Rod 100% and want him and Michigan to be very successful. We would have been ecstatic had Michigan gone 12-0 and was playing for BCS National Championship.
Bottom line though is that Michigan had a 3-9 season that opened up Coach Rod and staff for some criticism and additional heat. Wins will make everyone forget who did not get the job.
Is the program heading in the right direction? For now, we are taking a wait-and-see attitude. Again, with every blue fiber of our being WE hope that Coach Rod and staff turn this around and start to win big. However, if we have learned nothing else, it is that nothing is guaranteed in the game of football.
It is up to Michigan, Coach Rod, and staff, to put a top-level football team together and quiet the critics. We hope at this time next year, we can sing the praises of Coach Rod and his staff for resurrecting the winning tradition and for having an outstanding season.

Ballsy stance.
ReplyDeleteSo, if I'm reading this right - and I'm not certain I am since English seems to be your third language - you support a coach that goes 12-0 but have reservations about Rod because he didn't go 12-0? And while you "hope" he does well, you are going to wait and see, because if you put your ass on the line and say he will do well- and then he doesn't - then you'll lose the respect of your loyal readers that send in such insightful questions?
Am I close here? Or should I comment in Esperanto from now on so you can read it easier?
FAKE!
ReplyDeleteYou are kidding, right? RR is not, will not, and can not take the Michigan program where it needs to be. I thought it was a bad hire when it happened. I was openly optimistic when the season started. And, watched 12 Saturday demonstrations of very, very , very inept and ineffective coaching. RR successful at UofM? NEVER!!
ReplyDeleteFirst off, Coach Miles was not my 1st choice for UM head coach. And did not expect Coach R Rod to go 12-0 this season. But to me 3-9 is just not acceptable. If it is to you, so be it. Will not apoligize for thinking UM should of at least gone 6-6 and become bowl eligible. Why is not possible to want best for UM and Coach R Rod, and still be disappointed in this season.
ReplyDeleteDavid Cooke is Coked up on Sales!! WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
ReplyDeleteFirst, there is a difference between being disappointed and wanting Rodriguez's head on a platter. This site wants to have it both ways - claim the people threatening his job are justified, and simultaneously act is if they are being patient. Get off the fence. Say Rodriguez deserves more time, or say you don't like him.
ReplyDeleteSecond, please don't omit definite articles from your sentences when you type. When you refuse to use words like "the" and "a", it makes you sound like a caveman. As someone posting thoughts in a public forum, they will be absorbed more easily if we can easily understand them.
Chitown Blue,
ReplyDeleteThanks for the comments. Maybe we are cavemen and not A caveman?
Anything wrong with that? (Geico)
Does he need more time? Sure, BUT if Coach Rod goes 5-7 next year how many people are going to be happy missing a bowl game, losing to osu, nd and possible msu again.
Do we support Coach Rod. Yes we do because if he does well so does Michigan football. Michigan football is BIGGER than one man, one player, etc.
Do we have concerns with kids that he recruited or what he did coming into the program? Yes we did and it seems like we are being proven right with Barnes not coming onboard, but the staff better be getting a better linebacker if not one ... possible two that could come in and see playing time. We have complained since the spring about the defensive recruiting and it seems like it is finally taking hold.
chitown- I am not sure I get what you are saying. Show me anywhere I have called for Coach R Rods head on a platter, or to have him removed. When I saw things done by Old regimes I did not like, I said so. That did not mean I wanted Coach Carr's head, or UM to fail. And it is exactly same with Coach R Rod. I do not get why whining and being honest about old regime was OK. If you are with Coach R Rod you branded a hater.
ReplyDeleteChitown- Not sure what your problem with me is. Show me anywhere I have called for Coach R Rods head, or that he be fired. If I see things I do not like I saw so, same as with old regimes. Do not understand why complaining by others about Old regime/Coach Carr was OK. Complain about Coach R Rod, and you are a hater. Just because a person believes 3-9 is unacceptable, does not mean you do not believe the staff deserves time to get things going. I just do not understand why it has to be one or other.
ReplyDeleteCoachBT, I think this statement (by EROCWolverine) is an example of what chitown's talking about:
ReplyDelete"Does he need more time? Sure, BUT if Coach Rod goes 5-7 next year how many people are going to be happy missing a bowl game, losing to osu, nd and possible msu again."
So...does EROC believe RichRod needs more time. Well, he says so, but then for some reason also points out it would be ok to be unhappy next year, implying that maybe RichRod shouldn't get more time. So...what's his answer again?
Blogs are meant to enable opinionmaking, yet it seems like you all want to endlessly straddle the fence. It's really annoying, and not helpful to either the fanbase or the program.
Shit, or get off the pot. Support RichRod, or don't. In the above example, tell fans they need to give RichRod more time, or don't. One, or the other.
Don't constantly spout out of both sides or your mouth. It's not winning you points with anyone.
cfaller96:
ReplyDeleteWell if you think people will be happy with 5-7 and not want some changes then your surely mistaken next year.
Do we think Coach Rod needs time? YES, but how many years will fans be happy with 3-9, 5-7 and not getting back to being a BCS team let alone just getting to a bowl game.
Do we think Michigan is going in the right direction right now? Yes we do, but do we want to turn into another Notre Dame? NOT ME.
I will give him next year to get us back into a bowl game and then in 2010 WE BETTER be back to battling the Big Ten title and competing for a chance to go to a BCS bowl game or NOT MANY people will be happy ... including the kool-aid drinkers.
It is funny all these comments from people about being on the fence, but I have NEVER ONCE seen yet what you guys expect next year or the year after or how long you would be happy being a non bowl game team.
Just because we think Coach Rod needs more times doesn't mean he gets a life contract just because he is the coach right now. At Michgan EXPECTATIONS are high and these coaches know that or they wouldn't have jumped ship from a lesser team to come here.
They saw a program that has the most wins in college history, the best winning percentage in history and had a 33 year bowl streak so they know there are high expectations and believe me they like having them.
It is better to be at Michigan then West Virginia.
