Mailbag Question: Regarding McGuffie
Hello guys,
Seems like McGuffie will be leaving. I know you guys have talked about him and you have not been as impressed with him as other have this year, but will this hurt Michigan next year with him gone? Not trying to say you guys do not like the kid, but you guys have been more spot on about him.
I realize Michigan has Minor, C. Brown, Shaw, Grady?, Cox, Horn?, and freshmen coming in like Toussaint and V. Smith.
Would this hurt recruiting with so many players the last couple of years looking to leave Michigan?
Jim

Thanks for the question. There are times when it is better for all involved that players and teams split. This is the case with Sam McGuffie and Michigan.
It was never a perfect match from time Coach Rod was named head coach. Sam is just not as good or comfortable running the inside zone series and making the necessary cuts.
In high school, he was very successful running from the deep I formation where he has time to see and read. Even his signing day wavering was a sign this was not a perfect fit.
We wish Sam nothing but the best, because it is always our feeling that players need to do what is best for them and their families.

Wish Rich Rod would leave with him. The only sign of bad times is every season we have to endure with him at the helm.
