Michigan Tidbits: Part three
Another point: we have to separate Coach Rod -- the football coach -- from Rich Rodriguez -- the head of the Michigan football program. There is a difference. This is where we continue to say that he needs to hold people around him accountable. Maybe you think his staff is on top of things, but we do not agree. The staff isn't showing the competency necessary, not even close, for a program of Michigan's stature.
At Michigan (more so than at SOME other schools) there is a Head Football COACH and the Head of the Football PROGRAM. In Michigan's case, this is a big difference.
Lloyd Carr was a master of being the Head of the Michigan Football PROGRAM. He had been around for years, and he understood all of the politics and off-field aspects of this job.
Coach Rod is a football COACH who has learned some tough lessons in his short tenure at Michigan about being head of the Michigan Football PROGRAM.
Keep in mind Coach Rod retained a lot of people from Carr's internal administrative staff .The biggest beef we have is these people are letting way too many things fall through the cracks, and unfortunately, since Coach Rod is the head of the Michigan Football PROGRAM, it falls on him. He needs to hold these people accountable.
We have made this statement numerous times, and, yes -- it is our OPINION -- but Coach Rod is really a simple guy when it comes to football. He simply wants to coach football, and despite what posters/fans think, WE think he is a good football COACH.
The reality is, this job is more than just being a COACH. It is okay for Coach Rod to just want to coach football as long as he surrounds himself with people who will handle the many varieties of bullshit that the head of the football PROGRAM has to deal with. THAT HAS NOT HAPPENED. Thus the Public Relations blunders.
It is important for Michigan to hit the clinic and lecture circuit this winter and spring. This will give them chance to be seen, and change subject off public relations and onto their strength, which is football. This is especially true with regards to the Midwest, especially Ohio and Michigan.

Is there an echo in here? Or did you get strapped for content and decide to pass off Part 2 as Part 3 as well? Coming up with unsubstantiated gripes about the administrative staff and the "lack of text messaging" and then not running through spell-check or Word's grammar police isn't that hard. Watch:
Shavodrick Beaver decomitted because not only did the staff fail to text him about the departure of Shafer, but Tony Dews texted him that his mom was woman of ill-repute.
See? Not hard.

You do know that text messaging is illegal, right? So you wouldn't want the coaches to get into trouble.
Keep reading whatever you want and NOT ACTUALLY READ WHAT WE WROTE. Funny you complain about grammar, but you did not even read what we wrote in part 1, part 2 or part 3 because everything you wrote about was not even covered by us (regarding text messages or beaver).
Well all of our stuff comes from people that have great access to Michigan.
From Part 2 (which does talk about text messaging and the Shafer departure, since I assume you blacked out after writing it from the sheer effort and woke up in a puddle of drool and vomit the next morning before writing Part 3):

Well if you read it write it was "Some will blame the recruiting coordinator on this, but we believe that the head coach, position coach, or whoever the specific coach on point for recruiting a player should have been the ones to communicate the information, one way or another: phone call, a message, email -- something! This could have been done either Sunday or Monday night, since the resignation was not public until Tuesday morning. If they would have talked to these kids beforehand, especially the committed kids. Telling the kids on Monday night would not have given much time for rumors to spread, since the announcement was made early Tuesday morning."
Also there was no mention of Beaver in there telling recruits especially a quarterback about Coach Shafer being let go. I guess you missed all the talk about Gordon being worried about Coach Shafer leaving?
Again the WHOLE LAST PART was put into place to re-tell people what Coach Rod is about and what we want people to understand.
Read what you want and take it out of context ... seems like the little army is doing that a lot today.

Me using the word "texting" seems to have gotten you distracted from my actual point (and what did you mean when you referred to coaches "messaging" recruits?), which was:
You seem to be taking things that we aren't even sure happened and then getting upset about them. I know that Thomas Gordon changed his facebook status or something. Does that mean that no one on the Michigan staff reached out to any recruit?
Also, if not telling people about Shafer got people upset, but they didn't de-commit or anything, is an issue? Was Gordon upset about not being told, or was he upset about Shafer leaving? You don't explain that, but it's key to what happened.

You cannot tell me with this day and age of cell phones, e-mails, etc... that a kid shouldn't be contacted by the coaching staff if not by Coach Rod himself.
These kids are contacted weekly by the coaching staffs when allowed and the kids can call these coaches whenever they want ... and something such as a coach leaving should be a priority of the current staff to call the committed kids.
How long does it take to make a quick call to these committed kids.
Again we have very good knowledge of kids being contacted and not being contacted. We was told that Gordon did not know at all and that several others found out from ESPN and when GBW contacted them asking them about it.
If you think it is okay for the committed kids to find out that way ... then that is your thoughts and opinion ... BUT ... in our opinion the coaching staff should have called all these guys Sunday night or Monday night at the latest to tell these kids.
If they would have it wouldn't be a big deal. This is another "little bump" that continues to grow along with the other things that have went wrong.
It would be a lot easier to read things in context if the original text was in some form of coherent language to begin with.
Nobody is hammering the "they didn't contact recruits about Shafer" story as hard as you guys are with this epic three segment investigative reporting series. So who is turning the "little bumps" into something bigger?

The epic three part series ... lol ... I have a lot of 3 part stuff because it is so long to be in one long blog post. That is all because we are trying to explain in detail a lot of what happened or what we have seen, heard, etc...

You're hammering on the "it's a disgrace they didn't contact the kids" angle. All you've supported that with is Thomas Gordon. And, as I said, it's unclear whether Gordon was upset because he wasn't told, or if Gordon was upset because he liked Shafer. One of those things could be stopped by being contacted - the second couldn't.
If Gordon was upset about Shafer leaving, then your outrage at the lack of contact is a moot point.
So, I'm asking for some substantiation - which was Gordon upset about? Is there evidence of anyone else being upset? Or is this a tempest in a teapot?

Well if you have been on any of the message board you would have seen kids like Gordon getting hammered saying well if your little 3 star ass does not want to be here then leave type of post ... well we will not reveal anymore names unless they go public because of guys like you that will hammer the kids for having second thoughts of their future.
He was upset that he was not contacted.
He was also upset because he like Coach Shafer and wanted to play for him.
Again there was several committed kids that said they were contacted by GBW or heard from ESPN about Coach Shafer leaving.
Do you think that is right? Can you at least answer that question? I have asked you many times and you have not answered it?
Why were some kids on visits told Friday night while other kids never got a call and found out tuesday with everybody else?
That does not mean Gordon will not be a Michigan Wolverine, but a lot of this mess could have been avoided by a simple phone call.
This little dispute that is going on right now (you and dex) with me is taking longer than what 21 phone calls would have taken to committed kids.

I want to clarify something: I do not begrudge Gordon being upset at all, I would never suggest that he should have his scholly revoked, and I am the last person on the face of this earth that would criticize him on a message board. This is the truth.
I understand the logic in not telling the kids before the announcement. What happens if the press gets texts from recruits that Shafer is out before the announcement? That propogates the idea that Shafer was fired - that he didn't resign. That's a shitty thing to do to someone who seems like a pretty good guy, regardless of how good a coach he is.
If I was a recruit, would I want to know? Sure. If I was a coach, I'd probably hide it from them. We've seen them text everything to everyone, or put shit up on their facebook pages (I'm thinking Beaver) before they tell the coaches.
In the world of recruiting guys, this type of thing can really can make a difference. Reality and perception are two separate ideas when it comes to recruiting. Rightly or wrongly this type of thing gives UMs opponents something else to negative recruit with. Players get blasted with so much, when they hear same stuff over and over from multiple sources it can start to take hold.
