Mailbag question: Denard not allowed to throw more
What is the reason why Denard is not allowed to throw more? Coach Rod keeps saying that he is not just a "running quarterback," but until he starts throwing the ball, what defense will take Michigan seriously when he is in there?
Iowa’s defense kept getting closer and closer to the line of scrimmage and yes they drove down the field, but I did not see the "urgency" from the offense and this flaw really ate up a lot of needed time.
The defense came to play against Iowa I believe.

Thanks for the question.
Michigan, under Coach Rod, is a running team.
That is what this offense is most about, running the ball out of passing formations.
In our opinion the reason the staff uses Denard Robinson as a runner the majority of the time is because that is what he does best, run the football. Sometimes things are obvious and simple.
In Coach Rod’s defense, he was trying to get the offense to pick up the tempo and set a faster pace. He was on the sidelines screaming at the offense to move quicker.
The offensive tempo of Saturday’s game was one of our biggest disappointments. Iowa controlled the game’s tempo and it really hurt UM’s chances.
