Mailbag question: Will Campbell
Defensive wise I guess I am one of those guys that wanted to see W. Campbell play more, but to me from what I saw he really hurt the defense when he was in there.
Are the coaches playing him now because he burned his red-shirt and they need to get him some playing time, or did he really fall behind Sagesse? I thought for the most part Sagesse was playing well this year as a back-up.

Thanks for the question.
Will Campbell was manhandled, literally, when playing Saturday night.
He still has to learn to play with the leverage necessary to be successful. We have been talking about this since we saw him in the spring practices, where he was struggling.
Remember in high school he was able to just manhandle the other kids because they were mostly shorter, not as strong and not as big as Campbell was in high school. There is a big difference now going up against players that are older and also players that have been in a college strength and conditioning program for years.
We are guessing that he played because Martin was being doubled all night and needed a blow.
As for Sagesse, we are not sure why Will Campbell played instead of him, and we agree that Sagesse played solidly early in the year. We will check around to see if there is any information about this, or if they are just trying to get Campbell some playing time since he has burned his red-shirt.
