University of Michigan – University of Arkansas - Pine Bluff Basketball Preview

There is nothing of great necessity in this preview about tomorrow’s game at Ann Arbor. Pine Bluff is winless and Michigan is reeling severely after three straight losses that have provided the same problems and shortcomings over and over.

Pine Bluff has played up so far and has managed to hang within 20 points of major conference teams. This is the first game of a big Eastern road trip for Pine Bluff.

Pine Bluff has returning starters and decent height; the big guys can run some and are reasonably athletic. Several newcomers have shown some initial progress.

Other teams, the media, and fans have besieged Michigan, due to its lackluster play, during the last 8 days. Alabama and Boston College were clearly winnable games.

Coach B has his hands full and no amount of smoke, mirrors, or intelligent strategy is meaningful if the team cannot make some shots and get on the boards. Tomorrow might be an opportunity to rebuild some confidence, or the cycle may continue to spin into freefall. Michigan should win, but the challenges ahead are great. Utah, Kansas and Connecticut loom like corner bullies waiting for some lunch money.

Michigan may have to go 10-8 or even 11-7 in the conference to get a sniff from the committee. That task is daunting, but the ship has not yet capsized.

Coaches, in situations like this go back to what they know best and are most comfortable with. Tomorrow might tell some future changes or continuation of current strategies, such as bombs away and sticking with the 1-3-1.
