Mailbag question:

Hey,

What does getting this latest commit from Ohio mean? Does it mean Michigan is gaining ground there with programs like Trotwood last year and this year with Liberty or does it mean that these kids fit Michigan better and not fit Ohio State.

Thanks for the question. What it means is the new Michigan regime realizes how much talent there is in Ohio. One of our pet peeves with the prior administration was the seemed to concede the state of Ohio high school football talent to Ohio State. Is Michigan likely to catch Ohio State when it comes to Ohio recruiting? No probably not, but that does not mean that there is not enough talent for Michigan to get many quality football players.

As much as we like the kids from Trotwood and Liberty, the recruits that impress us the most from a recruitment standpoint are Turner and Koger. These are two athletes that Ohio State really liked and wanted, and Michigan went toe to toe with Ohio State and won. Not in any way suggesting that if, Ohio State does not offer the player is leftovers or something. There are so many quality kids in Ohio that Ohio State or no other school can get them all. Just that beating Ohio State (mono to mono) is great sign.

In addition, just think what these kids will do for the rivalry, these Ohio kids have something to prove to Ohio State and Coach Tressell.

  1. Coach Rod's emphasis on recruiting Florida hard is another great sign for UM. Compliment the speed that traditionally comes from Florida, Barwis' cutting edge system and the talent Michigan gets from being Michigan and you have recipe to be quite good. Hopefully it pans out. How many days until the Utah game?

  2. Well this team needs a bunch of time before the first game. Hopefully they will accomplish a lot of things in the summer.
