Mailbag Question: Regarding the game
I'm curious to read your take of the game.
Yeah, it was ugly, but even then, Michigan came close to taking a game against a decent team (Utah is a much better team than Youngstown State, I might add.) With all the "NEW" surrounding the team, a performance like this was inevitable: growing pains, baptism under fire--name your clichés. I saw a lot of promise: they played with heart, and poise, and passion. They didn't execute well, but I liked what they were TRYING to execute. I'm disappointed by the loss, but very optimistic of what's in store down the line.
What do you guys think?

Thanks for the question. We come away more concerned than ever with the Offensive Line play. They gave up way too much penetration, especially through the A and B gaps.
Quarterback is also a big concern like we tried to let people know, but a lot of those people would rather call “us” haters or people that did not like a certain kid.
For this offense to be successful Quarterback must be a threat throwing and running. Neither Quarterback this past week provided that at all.
Defensively we were happy with the second half performance. There are still some areas of concern.
The areas of concern “we” have are the Defensive Tackle play, Linebackers in pass coverage, and especially the safety play.
In the second half improved fundamentals gave us hope.
Part of the game we were happiest with was special teams. That was some of the best special teams play in some time for a Michigan football. Yes, they need to improve their kickoff return yards, punt return yards and Mesko did not have a great day, but have to remember the Utah kicker is one of the best in the country so he was a great equalizer for them on Saturday.
We will have more tomorrow with the concerns and also the positives from saturday's game against Utah. It would normally be done on Monday's, but with the holiday weekend and all we are trying to enjoy the time with family and friends.
