Inaugural BIG EAST/Big Ten Challenge Announced
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – Two of the nation's most prominent collegiate athletic conferences have come to an agreement to participate in a unique and ground-breaking season-opening baseball tournament in Florida that will include all 10 of the Big Ten's baseball-playing institutions, including the University of Michigan baseball team. The inaugural BIG EAST/Big Ten Baseball Challenge, hosted by the St. Petersburg/Clearwater Sports Commission, will feature 27 games Feb. 20-22, 2009, at various spring training venues in the St. Petersburg/Clearwater area, API Marketing announced today (Sept. 8).
Eight BIG EAST squads will also participate, including South Florida, Connecticut, Georgetown, St. John's, Seton Hall, West Virginia, Cincinnati and Notre Dame.
Michigan is tentatively scheduled to participate in three BIG EAST/Big Ten Baseball Challenge games. The Wolverines will take on South Florida, Cincinnati and St. John's on three consecutive days Feb. 20-22. Game times and locations will be announced at a later date.
