ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- In conjunction with the Big Ten Conference, the University of Michigan men's basketball team has announced its 2008-09 schedule.
"We certainly view the ability to compete in the Coaches vs. Cancer tournament as beneficial for developing our team chemistry," said U-M coach John Beilein. "The out-of-conference contests at Maryland in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge, against Duke at Crisler Arena and at UConn will no doubt provide our team chances to compete against teams at the highest level of college basketball while facing programs that have won national championships in the past 10 years. The 18-game Big Ten schedule will no doubt prove to be very challenging with unprecedented opportunities for national exposure on the Big Ten Network."
The Maize and Blue will tip off the 2008-09 non-conference schedule with an exhibition contest against Saginaw Valley State on Thursday, Nov. 6, before serving as one of four regional hosts for the 2K Sports Classic benefiting Coaches vs. Cancer. With Duke, UCLA and Southern Illinois serving as the other host sites, full tournament team assignments are still being determined by the Classic hosts, the Gazelle Group.
