Paterno: Michigan a solid team, Rodriguez will succeed as coach
by John Heuser The Ann Arbor News
Asked on the Big Ten teleconference Tuesday what's wrong with Michigan, Penn State football coach Joe Paterno said: "Well, I don't know what's wrong with them. I'm not sure there's a lot wrong with them."
Paterno, whose third-ranked Nittany Lions (7-0, 3-0 Big Ten) will host the Wolverines (2-4, 1-1) on Saturday, acknowledged that Michigan didn't play particularly well in its loss to Toledo last weekend, but added: "I think Michigan's got a good, solid football team that got booby trapped by a Toledo team that played very inspired football."
The Penn State coach also said he believed that first-year Michigan coach Rich Rodriguez will succeed in Ann Arbor despite the rocky start to his tenure.
"If you know what you're doing, and you have some good kids, you can make believers out of them, as Rich will do, because he's an awfully good coach," Paterno said. "They'll swing it around."
