Penn State football team: Michigan will be no pushover
by John Heuser The Ann Arbor News
No matter which team is favored, whether the game's in Ann Arbor or whether it's played at Beaver Stadium, the result has become all too predictable when the University of Michigan meets Penn State in football. Michigan wins.
For nine consecutive games in the series, the Wolverines have beaten Penn State. There have been blowouts - see the 27-0 and 20-0 editions in 1998 and 2001, respectively - and squeakers. The last four games were decided by 4.5 points on average, including a Michigan overtime victory in 2002.
The Nittany Lions were the higher-ranked team in five of the losses, and will again be favored Saturday. Big time.
Penn State is 7-0, and ranked No. 3. Michigan is 2-4 and coming off a loss to Toledo.
But Penn State senior receiver and return man Derrick Williams doesn't sound like he's taking anything for granted.
"Their defense is unbelievable -Â we've played all those guys before and it's going to be a tough game," Williams said Tuesday. "I think they want to get that loss to Toledo out (of their systems) and they're going to come in here and play hard."
