Illinois at Michigan Preview

Overview:
This is not just a battle of spread offenses, but teams with similar philosophies. Both UM and Illinois use spread formations to set up the running game, and both play aggressive defense. These similarities should make for a very interesting Saturday afternoon.

Offense:
Illinois lost their best offensive player to the NFL in Mendenhall. Daniel Dufrene is solid, but not yet the player that Mendenhall was. Juice Williams is the key to the Illini offense. He can hurt you with his arm or legs. Containing him will be challenge Number 1. He has possibly the top wide receiver in Big Ten in sophomore Arrelious Benn. Benn can hurt you catching the ball or running it. He already has two rushing touchdowns this year. Illinois also needed to replace 3 starting offensive linemen from last year.

Defense:
Illinois just might have one of the two best defensive lines Michigan will face his year. Their secondary is also solid. If there is an area UM can exploit, it is inexperience at linebacker.

Special teams:
Illinois returns their punter from last year, but they have a new placekicker. Benn is also a very dangerous return man.
