Mailbag question: "We missed it by that much” or did we?


Utah vs. Michigan ... Maxwell Smart comment "we missed it by that much" or did we?

What would have happened if we pulled that game out?

or do you think Utah laid an egg against us and just got better throughout the year?

What about their quarterback he sure did look good against Alabama's defense.

Brian Johnson was a huge difference in the game.

Quarterback is the most important position on the field, and Utah takes full advantage of having an extremely high caliber one. Utah definitely improved throughout the year, where as Michigan took some steps backwards, some forwards, and even some sideways.

For some reason, Utah seemed to pull back some in second half and just sat on the lead. That, combined with Michigan no longer turning over the football, gave Michigan a chance to get back into the game.

If Michigan had scored and tied the game, anything would have been possible. If Michigan had won that game, it is our opinion that they would have ended up with 6 wins, become bowl eligible, and that would have been a huge help going forward. This would have shone on the program some much-needed positive light, along with giving the young players some very valuable additional practice time during bowl game preparations.

    You're now concluding that beating Utah would allow us to beat two other teams that'd have nothing to do with beating Utah. Brilliant. What fullproof formula is this based on again?

    Well first off winning breeds more winning and confidence goes way up when you win games as well.

    Getting any season off to positive start pays huge dividends. Building the confidence and maintaining positive attitude of team is 90% of the battle. This is especially true with 1st year coach with new system. This type of come from behind victory gives you something to build on and makes it much easier to rally the troops when you can point to the fact that team has been there before and succeeded.
