Mike Jones: Meet your new Michigan Wolverine

Mike Jones

Height: 6'2"
Weight: 200 lbs.
High School: Edgewater High School (Florida)
High School Coach Bill Gierke
Position: Defensive Back
Recruiter: Coach Rod Smith
Class: 2009 Recruiting Class (Signed and Enrolled)

Mike Jones

Overview: A very aggressive, hard-hitting player who, though listed at safety, usually lines up in the box or covering #2. He has good size and the potential to be very good on special teams. We doubt he ever plays safety at Michigan. He looks like a natural weak side linebacker who could grow into any of the three linebacker positions.

Strengths: Jones is a solid tackler who plays hard all the time. He plays downhill making plays at the line of scrimmage and in the backfield. An excellent blitzer who sheds blocks and shows very good closing speed and burst when coming off the edge.

Needs work: He shows average footwork and needs to work on his read steps. He also has tendency to over-run plays and get too deep.

  1. I have a question about slot receivers:

How is terrence robinson doing after his injury? Do you expect him to contribute this year?

Is Feagin expected to do anything at receiver, or does he have too many people to compete with at that position now?

Yea T-Rob should be fine ... he is working out and is running, but they are holding him out for some things. Should be good to go.

Feagin is likely a slot receiver, but he might see some snaps at quarterback because of depth and also they might want to simulate him as being D-Rob where he might play such as he might as a "situational" quarterback.

A lot might depend on how well he learns the position. He will have time and practice ahead of some of the players coming in this year. One thing we do not know is how many slots do they want to use in their rotation becasue basically they only had Odoms last year. Also the "rumors" of using the tight end a lot more might limit the number of slots on the field as well. Will they use 1 tight end and 1 slot for their main formation or will it be 2 slots.
