Coaches Corner: Tate Forcier
Coaches Corner: Tate Forcier
The improvement in this kid’s posted film from the first to the last practice is outstanding. He is playing with noticeable swagger and confidence.
A couple of (obvious) notes:
1) As his confidence and knowledge of the offense improves, so does his decision-making. In the last film, he was getting rid of the ball much earlier.
2) Forcier's fundamentals have improved by light years already. He is forcing the ball up much better and this is helping his accuracy on boots and rolls. We are sure Coach Smith is still nagging him about getting his front shoulder around, but what an improvement!
3) He is running harder and more aggressively, which is very important. If you hesitate, you will be killed when vacating the pocket. We still think he can get north and south a touch better, but again, he has shown great improvement.
4) As his mechanics have improved, so has his velocity on the ball. There were two times he hit wide receivers going flat out when, before, the ball might not have gotten there.
5) His ball handling is still a work in progress, but what a difference. He looks much cleaner and crisper than before.
Forcier's performance at coaches clinic was a mix of very good on some plays and very bad on others, and everywhere in between. In our opinion, that is exactly how we see the season unfolding.
