Mailbag question: Where do you see Tate compared to last year?

I think we all expected Forcier to struggle as a true freshman, but how does he look compared to where Threet and Sheridan were at the same time last year? We were only able to see a little bit in the spring game of what he can do especially since it was against the second group.

Thanks for the question.

Forcier has an advantage because he is better athlete than last year’s starters. He also has a better supporting cast than Threet and Sheridan did last year. Most of the players have been in Coach Rod"s system for one year now, so they understand it along with knowing what is going on and what the coaches expect from them.

In our opinion his decision-making and grasp of offense is similar to what we saw last year. Overall we rate Forcier as further advanced and with a lot more upside.

One thing to keep in mind: he should still be in high school! He will have some good plays and then he will have some bad plays. Just need a supporting cast to help the freshman quarterback this year so they do not have to put everything on him.

The running game should be a lot better with a more experienced, better offensive line as well as having a stable of running backs such as Minor, C. Brown, Shaw, and even V. Smith. They will make a good rotation as long as they stay healthy. Then throw in the split ends and slot receivers that bring depth and extra options. That will always help a true freshman quarterback.
