Michigan Football Tidbits: Almost Summer

It's almost summer and summer for Michigan program and for the individual players is important.

Just a few tidbits from conversation with Barwis at coaches clinic.

Q. How important is the summer for players?

A. Its vital for Coach Rods program and it is my favorite time of year. We can spend more time with the players. Can individualize there workouts more effectively and find out who really loves the game.

Q. Coach Rod used that phrase "love the game" in his speech that seems to be a common theme.

A. I hope our Strength and conditioning program is fair for all the players, but tough. Like any program any players partakes in if they just do what is asked of them and if they are not willing to go the extra mile then the benefits they gain will be limited.

We think we have a top program, but other schools have good programs also. What we are looking for are those kids who want to improve and want to play so badly that they will not only accomplish the goals we ask for, but exceed them. Last year we had a couple players like that while this year we have more.

Q. How often do you report to Coach Rod about players development.

A. Daily Coach Rod knows exactly what we are doing and what kids are performing.

Q. What is the major difference between summer and winter conditioning.

A. Two main differences. Time being the huge difference, but the amount of running we will ask the kids to do. They already think we run a lot and those who went through program last year understand running will increase, but the new kids and incoming freshmen have no idea what is about to hit them.
