Michigan Football Tidbits: Team progressed a ton
Michigan Football Tidbits: Team progressed a ton
Spring practice is over and team progressed a ton (especially offensively), but in coaches and Barwis mind the summer is much more critical to players development than spring.
So do not count on the same players who was on first team to necessarily be on first team after summer or fall workouts because of programs structure incoming freshmen can make major strides before fall practices start.
Quarterback situation was discussed in previously and of course Coach Rod is not going to name a starting quarterback (as he stated in the coaches clinic that even if he knows who the starter is and the players do as well that he will not say who is the starter to the media.
In fact Coach Rod hates the terms first team or second team because he tells the kids to compete daily for a starting job. There is no doubt that Tate will have to lose the job in fall. When thinking about starting quarterback remember a couple of things
This team is young, in fact very young and defensively maybe a year or so away. So Coach Rod will want to progress with a quarterback he feels will be starter next year and years to come.
This team is going to be much better running the football than last year. Our running game should be the strength of the team. Therefore more likelihood that you can get by with a young quarterback when counting on a running game and not rely on the passing game to win games for you.
Noticed that people are using the "All in" theme that Coach Rod stressed in spring. Of course this spring was so much better than a year ago in terms of kids "buying in". This is one reason why Barwis is such a key figure in Coach Rod's program.
There are a few players who for one reason or another either has not performed up to expectations or is not showing the proper tenacity in Barwis program. Those are the kids Barwis will be pushing this summer to the extent of either get with it or it is time to go. (that is an opinion, but based on observations).
