Mailbag question: About a few Freshmen?
Mailbag question: About a few Freshmen?
Hey Fellas,
Word around is that Cam Gordon and Je'Ron Stokes have been repeatedly mentioned by a few members of the team as kids who have stuck out in workouts and off-season drills. Any confirmation on that and any other freshman players that you've heard from Barwis or team members that are impressing so far?
Thanks,

Thanks for the question.
The reports on both are very positive.
Stokes, in particular, is getting glowing reviews. We would like to see C. Gordon and T. Gordon both red-shirt, but with Michigan 's lack of depth at safety it is possible T. Gordon will have to play.
We are always a bit cautious with reports from workouts. It is very easy to look good when playing in shorts and T-shirts. Until we get actual reports of how incoming players deal with hitting and the other physical parts of the game, caution rules.
It is a completely different game once you strap the helmet on in front of 110,000 fans, let alone going from high school to college football.

I thought Cameron Gordon was playing WR, not safety. I know that many people think he has the frame to grow into a LB.
ReplyDeleteHas he already switched positions or were you talking about Thomas Gordon at safety?
Actually we would like to see both C. Gordon and T. Gordon both red-shirt.
ReplyDeleteWe beleive with the players they are brining in the 2010 recruiting class that C. Gordon will not last long or get buried on the depth chart at split end (again this is our opinion).
What it might come down to is if C. Gordon wants to try and play sooner or wait a few years. We believe like all kids once they see who is ahead of them and who might be coming in that most kids in the end just want to try and play.
The thing is the quicker he makes the decision the better off it will be not only for him, but also the team because sometimes players waste 1-2 years trying to figure out where they want to play and by the time they switch they get behind or players who are younger are just as good and most coaches will play the younger player if everything is equal such as ability, experience, etc...
I agree Eroc. Thank you for your "strap on" the helmet reference. That makes perfect sense.
ReplyDeleteIn the 2009 and 2010 classes there at 6 athletes who are classified as SEs. There are another 2 to 4 who could end up playing SE in the future. This is SEs, not a combination of SEs and Slots. At some point it is logical that some of these athletes be moved to another position. Cam Gordon plays a position LBer, that is a position in need of a major upgrade. In our opinion that is why this type of move makes the most sense.
ReplyDeleteNow it's just a matter of getting C. Gordon on board...
