Mailbag question: Several questions
I am curious - does defensive line coach, for example, spend time with the offensive lineman to advise them on the defensive techniques they will see? How about at any other positions?
In your opinion, what made Minnesota's run game so effective under Glen Mason? I know they had "unforeseen talent" in Maroney and Barber, but they seemed to be able to run whenever they wanted with the opposing defense being helpless. Is there anything Michigan might want to emulate?
Brandon Moore - He seemed to have a lot of raw ability, seemingly stuck behind Koger and Webb, could he play DE?
I know that was a lot. Thank you in advance for your response.

Thanks for the question.
Michigan practices are broken down into many five minutes and some ten minute sessions.
During majority of sessions each individual coach is working with his group with help from the graduate assistants.
There are some sessions, which we call one on ones, where the defensive line goes against the offensive line. This is 100% full go, live practice sessions. At these sessions both position coaches and graduate assistants work together and cross coach. There is also a one on one session with defensive backs and split ends.
Two Key to Minnesota running game was twofold:
1) Talent and concept. Minnesota was able to attract top flight running backs because they could sell they were a running team.
2) They used a very simple zone scheme combined with an option attack and play action passing game.
Brandon Moore is a very good athlete and runs very well for his size. He is still raw and learning the game. If he ever learns the game and improves his fundamentals, he has the talent to be very good. The real problem is that he is behind two very good tight ends right now in Koger and Webb.
Webb really impressed us this spring and seems to be putting the extra work in and Michigan has options at tight end now who are very athletic and could be a defensive coordinators nightmare as far as match-ups go. The biggest thing is getting them the ball.
