Michigan Football Tidbits: Linebacker -- Spinner Position

Michigan Football Tidbits: Linebacker -- Spinner Position

S. Brown: We know some seeing his name riles up many people. And good news (tongue n' cheek) is that he misses a tackle this year, but he is not the last line of defense like previously.

Here is the good news about S. Brown. Despite all the negative stuff, he has continued to be one of the team leaders. He still works hard and he is very vocal in practice. Coaches really like the kid and coach Robinson thinks he is our best athlete on defense.

Same stuff as last year. We have maintained from day one that if you watch tape of Michigan, S. Brown makes a lot of plays, but he just lacks confidence and sometimes during that game (usually in crucial moments) he fails to execute. He has one more shot and lets hope he finally has a complete year.

B. Hawthorne vs. M. Jones: This one is close, with slight edge right now to Hawthorne.

Why?

Hawthorne just seems to be one of those kids who is a football player. He is not the biggest kid, he sure is not as fast as S. Brown, but he is always in position and really excels at rushing the quarterback in blitzes. He rarely misses in the open field tackles and works hard in weight room. (He is getting bigger).

Mike Jones in our opinion, is a better athlete and despite some people being critical of his production in high school he showed in spring that he can compete and has impressed coaches and Barwis.

Both these kids are examples of kids who are going to be productive at Michigan. It would be great if both could red-shirt, but again, not going to happen.

Expect both of them to play on special team's and if injury happens to S. Brown we expect them to split time at a very important position in coach Robinson's scheme.

  1. I started liking Stevie Brown a whole lot after seeing him drag a Utah back down by the dreadlocks. That's the type of killer instinct the defense needs.

    Go Blue!

PS. Thanks for the simple and clear content. I think some other Michigan bloggers, bless them nonetheless, are trying to win a Nobel in Literature.
