Mailbag question: Timing of quarterbacks
Mailbag question: Timing of quarterbacks
Could Tate’s lack of practice the past two weeks have something to do with his slow down of progress?

Thanks for the question.
Absolutely so, a young quarterback still learning the offense needs as many reps as he can get.
A large portion of the success of this read-option offense is timing. If the quarterback misreads, holds the ball too long, or makes incorrect decisions on checks, this offense will sputter. So timing is reinforced by repetition.
Or as readers have heard here, the spread is a thing of beauty when it works, but an ugly duckling that can lay an egg and quack when things are not going according to Hoyle.
