Links of Interest for Michigan
Well yours truly just returned from a much needed three-day Mahi-Mahi fishing expedition which was a blast and one with a tasty reward. But, time to get back to work. Well for those who missed it the players, families, and staff once again went to bat to support Mott Children’s Hospital. Three days later and all the dribble about out of conference games continues, at least we were not picked as the weakest, but still other conferences say they have to play more in-conference than the B10. There are even twidgets at ESPN playing Barbie dolls with make-believe schedules, such as the B10 versus PAC10 and B12, and even go on to say which team wins in their little battle of X-Men and GI Joe figurines – so I guess RR needs to take up action figures or fantasy gaming to be able to survive in ESPN’s roll-playing reality. All the banter even has the Big lEast talking smack, and just because RR came from WV and it hurt their feelings that UM should have played WV in 2009. Probably why people want his spread offense to die, but it has not says Urban Meyer.
Speaking of RR he to may be do for some rest and relaxation, well when he returns from visiting his dad in WV that is, and as long as the Big House remains in the prohibition faction he won’t be able to get a drink to relax from his visit to hillbilly-ville. Well he sure is slowing down at the moment; in fact he recently hosted 300 female football prospects in his second annual ladies football camp, this is also where he announced Dan O’Neill is leaving the team (EROC has an entry concerning this). He also spoke about Kevin Grady’s status, and he is on the team practicing but it is not a definite go yet. On camps UM is kicking off their football camps starting last weekend, and BTN is kicked off UM day today at 6 a.m. Here are some surprising things I did not know about college football.
Well ok I did know, but it is surprising how many people act like they do not. Like football at this level is about money, and when your program is successful it does bring in a lot of cash to those universities. Which is ok people; they have to make money to support athletics, thusly why there are commissions such as the one RR is on to ensure things work right (not perfect but right). But, I am also not a fool enough to understand that coaches and colleges will use the rules to their advantages such as bringing in coaches as graduate assistants, but this is a business and like any – the management will look for loopholes to succeed. Speaking of success.
Now that Denard is on campus he is looking to have a shot, and his abilities only stand to bolster success at this position of need, and an O that was lack-luster. It is understandable if we are to return to redeem ourselves against such opponents as ND, or ever hope to relive glory days of dual championship splendor. We will also get a much needed boost through D management, and a system under the now surefooted Coach Robinson. Now don’t get me wrong Domers don’t expect us to be that much better, which may or may not help those of us that do not know which side of the fence we are on, and while we are on side confusement – Boren may have been emotionally scarred by yelling, as his dad used to yell at him and you know he doesn’t like that, maybe a young impact player like Big Will might be able to defog his cranial issues. Because we know REAL Michigan men do make an impact. Such is the case of LaMarr Woodley who ready to treat fans to another a football camp. While he is at it maybe he can help by providing a camp to Wisky, whose largest concern this year is on defense. While we are discussing things in need of work, Chris Forcier’s interview on why he left UCLA was far better then his initial release. Well enough team bantering lets get into recruiting.
As usual we will start withy love lost. LB Tyon Dixon has given his commit to Louisville; S Bashaud Breeland pledged Clemson; DE Dakota Royer and OLB Zachary Allen have finalized lists which do not include UM; also in the Keystone State S Jeff Knox has signed with the Pitt Lions and DE Kyle Baublitz has pledge with a nitanny type lion; we also lost two to the dogs as OL Colin Porter made a Husky decision and Brent Benedict became a Bulldog; and finally word is that Instate QB Robert Bolden has pledged to lil bro. Now, on to our still hopefuls that are making news.
In the QB arena Gardner is obviously staying blue and Canada believes he may RRs answer; Meanwhile Aaron Johnson is a key component to East Texas High School success, Gavin Webster continues to be a big-time play maker, and Ryan Kasdorf will be a catch as he was Gatorade POY. For the other offensive backs RB Lache Seastrunk is being enticed by Auburn, current UM camper Nick Hill if he does not find a home at UM may very well at NIU, and tGA maybe looking at Roderick Smith to replace the 5 star puff-puff-pass back. The other O-type is the #1 in the nation, as such we may have to wait till February 3rd to hear his decision but he is at UM this week. Time to jump on the other side of the ball.
Defensive tackle Jonathan Hankins will be joining LB William Gholston at Sparty camp, but LB Tyrone Cornelius is saying UM wants him to visit during the summer. At the end of the lines the countries top DE Jackson Jeffcoat has a steady mentor in his NFL father, and Dominique Easley though he has a lot of attention he has no leader. Going deeper in the defense CB Mylan Hicks appears to be the subject of an in-state battle, and Johnavon Fulton even though he enjoyed a Bama visit he is not ready to commit, and has changed his top five which now does not include UM. Much to my angst S Latwan Anderson is visiting the gaycorns, another dream possibly ruined by Glenville. Sorry for the non-happy recruiting ending – but there is other news.
In basketball Coach B is gearing up for UM camps, which is good because very few B10 teams are actually hosting camps this year, and schools better start recruiting long-termers. With his new position schools having all these one and done recruits, may end up paying the price. Meanwhile Power Forward commit Blake McLimans is on his way to UM, prospect Center Will Regan has a pretty steady list which does not include us, and SG Roy Marble may chip right into his Dad’s former team Iowa, and there is a new SF prospect to watch – DeJaun Marrero he has UM interest and brings credibility to his teams. In hockey it appears that UAF is pondering departing our conference, and in track Wolverines Geena Gall and Tiffany Ofili won individual championships while helping land UM a 7th place NCAA Outdoor Championships finish. Well folks that is it.
I know you are saying – thank the lord. Sorry, a lot happens in seven days. Will have more for your reading pleasure soon. Thanks for the read. Steve.
