Mailbag question: 4th of July Blowout questions

Hey Guys!

Great tidbits lately!

I've really enjoyed the emergence of the blogspot.com site, it's definitely something I look forward to checking everyday. Anyway, I've looked at our ILB's and I think they could be the key to a pretty solid defense (besides staying injury free). IMO the DL isn't as untalented as people think, I like that starting 3...and I haven't seen him yet, but I think Roh could be a great edge rusher for many years to come. Our DB's worry me because we really don't have CB's and Floyd and even Turner might be better fits at safety if we had more CB depth, but I don't think we'll ever know (unless we go crazy on CBs in this class).

I've got a few questions that people have either asked me or have come up with myself. You may want to put them on the blog, I don't know. Maybe make it a 4th of July Special?

Offense
1. Are we in a position where QB's are sharing snaps?
2. Is Barnum healthy?
3. Game 1: Stonum or Hemingway? Omameh or Huyge?

Defense
1. Do we REALLY have enough CB's to have even a solid secondary?
2. Which defense was better at THIS time in the year...this year's or last year's?
3. Where does Graham rank among ALL DE's around the Big Ten? Entire country?

Special Teams
1. Do you see someone winning the battle at kicker or could it be a 35 yard line in/out situation?
2. Are we close to getting a punter in this class?
3. Who looked the best in the return game in the spring? Who would you expect to make an impact that's coming in the fall?

Recruiting
1. Shot in the dark (or light), who do you think commits next?
2. Gordon and Bell were recruited without a particular position in mind...where do they end up?
3. Of the last class...who's in? Who's TBD? Anyone out?

Okay, so maybe that was "a few" per category, but hey, it just speaks volumes about our appreciation for ErocWolverine, CoachBt, and MaizeMan, etc. A few are popular questions, others were questions I've recently been asked, others I came up with myself. Have a good holiday!

--------------------------------------------------

Thanks for the kind words and also the questions.

Offense:
1) We doubt it, Forcier's spring time experience is huge. Denard Robinson maybe in limited role. We see D. Robinson as a player that will likely see 5-10 snaps a game as the quarterback for a change of pace. In our opinion Michigan will try and get D. Robinson on the field in other ways as well, such as running back, along with slot receiver where they can just get him more touches along with getting another speed weapon on the field.

2) Barnum is lifting, just starting. The problem with him this spring was two different injuries which might have set him back a bit, but was still better that he came in early to get adjusted to Michigan. As the spring was started we were told the coaches were very high on Barnum and likely see the two-deep on the offensive line. Will the injuries hold him back? That is the big question along with some of the other players during the spring really improved from last year.

3a) Hemingway if healthy, Stonum has most talent, but has not put it together yet. Hope Stonum does, he has speed this offense needs on outside. Just remember he is only a true sophomore and some kids need time to adjust to the college game especially when they come in early and believe they will make an impact right away.

3b) Huyge early, Watch Omameh by mid-season. He has most athletic ability and talent. Huyge had a really good spring and impressed us with his improvement.

Defense:

1) Three counting injured Donovan Warren this spring. Need one of the freshmen to step up and provide depth in our opinion especially facing more and more spread teams with multiple receivers.

2) Tough call because offense was so bad last spring. Would probably say 2008 defense better if no other reason than depth. We are very thin right now on defense.

3) With so many defensive ends leaving early Brandon Graham has chance to be All-American. Watch George Selvie from South Florida. Kid can flat out play. In Big Ten Ohio State has two good defensive ends.

Special Teams:

1) Jason Olesnavage was solid this spring. He did not really show it during the spring game, but the practices we watched he was solid from all ranges.

2) Yes you have to think they are close especially with having their kicking camp the other week. Will Hagerup or Mike Sadler seem to be the front runners right now and a lot of punters / kickers do not get scholarship offers so that always helps trying to land a good one is by offering them.

Recruiting:

1) Might not be a 2010 recruit, but a 2011 recruit ... possible.

2) Bell plays safety to start, although he is better fit at weak side linebacker in our opinion, safety depth is as bad as cornerback in our opinion. Gordon plays linebacker, probably weak side linebacker.

3. Waiting on Gallon and Turner. both have one last chance. Gallon seems to need a point or two on his test and waiting on results on why he is not in Ann Arbor yet. Turner from what we were told he was taking summer classes to help his situation. He was one recruit that we though we needed to see in Ann Arbor early this summer since in our opinion he was a recruit that the coaches were counting on this fall. We keep hearing that right now he has a "certificate of graduation", but not a diploma.

Both of those players would be a huge loss if either does not make it in. We hope we answered all your questions ... lol.

  2. " Might not be a 2010 recruit, but a 2011 recruit ... possible."

well 2 names for 2011 come to mind, Brown and Hart, still i was under the impression that juniors cant make it official till Sept 1st, so i would hope we would have another 2010 recruit by then. Either way I'm liking the recruiting Michigan is doing long term it will pay off BIG.
