Mailbag question: James Rogers
What effect, if any, do you see guys like James Rogers making on the defensive side of the ball?

Thanks for the question.
Not much in our opinion because he has bounced around so much it is unlikely he helps anywhere but special teams. He can be and has been a factor on special teams and a team always needs good athletes with speed and tackling ability on the special teams.
James has good speed, but he is not very physical, at least we have not seen any this quality so far.
He is also still fairly thin, at least from going off of what we saw last year, so hopefully working with Coach Barwis during the off-season can add some weight, along with adding some strength while still keeping his speed.
In our opinion he is a good kid who just has not found a spot in the new schemes. He can help the team out by being an outstanding special teams player, like Brandon Smith did last year for Michigan.
