Mailbag Question: Regarding Newsome

Well guys,

We lost Newsome or it looks like it for good now. So how does this make Michigan's recruiting class without him? Also where does Forcier come in to play now? Will he commit on his visit?

Do you think that the Forcier pressure helped Newsome back out and start his recruiting all over again?

Where do you see the team with Beaver by himself and where do you see the team if Forcier come to Michigan?
Is this a better deal now for Michigan if Tate comes to Michigan?

Dan

Thanks for the question. If Newsome does end up somewhere else, it is definite loss for Michigan in our opinion. We do not believe it is devastating.

First, Beaver is very good prospect, and there are still other quarterbacks out there that would be great fits.

In our opinion, Michigan needs two quarterback recruits in this class. Forcier, while not the fit Newsome is, he would be nice addition, but so would Eugene Smith and Dennard Robinson.

In our opinion, Newsome decision had nothing to do with Forcier. It has more to do with Newsome being unsure about Michigan style of offense.

Michigan Daily: Fred Jackson says best RB class ever

from Michigan Daily

Jackson: Shaw and McGuffie are my best running back class ever

By Dan Feldman
Daily Sports Editor

Freshman running back Michael Shaw has impressed coaches with his all-around game.

Michigan lost its all-time leading rusher in Mike Hart. And his two most-experienced replacements, juniors Carlos Brown and Brandon Minor, have been hampered by injuries.

With so much uncertainty at quarterback and on the offensive line, the Wolverines can’t afford to see another position group struggle.

Detroit News: Michigan will have many choices

from Detroit News

U-M will have many choices

Unlike past seasons, Rodriguez says skilled positions might be split among several players.

Angelique S. Chengelis / The Detroit News

Michigan fans might have to get used to the idea that new coach Rich Rodriguez isn't going to be concrete when it comes to his depth chart.

Maybe that's not a bad thing.

While it could be evidence of lack of depth, an abundance of inexperience and uncertainty among coaches as to who's the best at each position, it could also mean, hey, there's plenty of solid players deserving of playing time.

Mailbag Question: Regarding Sheridan

Hey guys,

I know this has been beat to death, but can you explain it a little better regarding Sheridan. Do you guys not like him? Do you guys really think he can't throw the ball 20 yards? What is the deal? Also how does Threet seem so much better in your guys thoughts, but the coaches seem to think Sheridan is making the better decisions right now?

Thanks ... Greg

-------------------------------------------------------

Thanks for the question. It is not a matter of liking or disliking, it is a matter that in our opinion, based totally on what we saw, and Sheridan is not a very good passer. His passes lacked zip and were not very accurate.

None of us is questioning Sheridan's football knowledge and sense. We are also not questioning his ability to run quarterback read option. He did these things very well, in our opinion. He just did not show the throwing ability that Threet did in the spring.

Lineman leaves OSU country after tragedy, starts new life in Ann Arbor

Associated Press

ANN ARBOR -- Elliott Mealer always believed he was destined to play college football.
Just not at Michigan.

But there he was, all 6-foot-6 inches and 298 pounds of him, emerging from Schembechler Hall on Sunday in a uniform he grew up despising. Now it's part of a new beginning that's helping him slowly replace tragedy.

Mealer's new football home has provided solace 55 miles from Wauseon, Ohio, the small town where Mealer learned to love football and where last December, his life changed.
