Coach and Eroc,
Can you tell me what the differences between Forcier and Newsome? There seems to be a debate of what type of dual threat quarterback Michigan is going after. What is the difference between the various points of a dual threat quarterback? What kind of guy is Michigan looking at or what direction do you feel the new staff wants? Are they looking for a QB like Coach Rod had at WV (runner) or when he was the OC at Tulane (passer)? Having Sheridan and Threet sharing snaps, does this tell us anything about the direction? Does this tell us that Sheridan has improved or does this mean Threet has not or does it go off that Coach Rod is looking into a certain guy to fit his offense? It seems like if Sheridan wins the job this spring that he wants the WV type offense. If that is true do, you think a kid as Feagin can come in right away and play or possible even take over the starting job.
See ya guys ... great Site.

The term dual threat is same as saying spread offense. It means something different to everybody. Most people tend to apply the term dual threat to mean the type of quarterback needed to be successful in type of offense they want ran.
There is really three types of quarterbacks we are talking about. First is Pat White type, a runner/outstanding athlete who has average arm at best. Justin Feagin fits this mold. Second type is Vince Young, great athlete who has cannon for an arm, but is not as polished as a passer. Newsome would fit into this mold. Third is primarily a pocket passer, but has enough mobility to get out of pocket, or escape the pocket. Jim Harbaugh was perfect example of this type of quarterback. Forcier is another example of this type of quarterback.
Eroc and I will be better able to answer the second part of your question after this weekend. However, from film available, reading what others have said, reading Coach Rods comments, it appears Michigan/Coach Rod and staff is leaning towards a quarterback like Pat White type and what Coach Rod and staff did at West Virginia. Everything, from staff construction, to type of player recruited in first class points to staying with what worked at West Virginia. I truly expect to see Feagin fighting for major playing time and expect him to see plenty of snaps by mid-season.
