Hello Eroc,
Question for Coach or yourself:
One of my favorite aspects of "old M" was the deep pass patterns ran for the outside receivers. With the new regime taking over, will we still see the deep posts, fades, double moves, etc? From my understanding, the passing game will be more focused on the short and intermediate routes using screens, quick hitches, and timing routes.
Obviously, the coaches will stretch the field to keep defenses honest. What type of deep pass patterns can we expect to see and which formations will they be ran out of?
Thanks for the input and keep up the good work!
Sean

Thanks for the question. The trademark of Coach Rod’s passing game is the short passing game. Key to this is ability to take a short pass and turn it into a big gain.
New passing game will include some vertical passes. We will definitely see fades, skinny post, and some deep flies. You will also see some new patterns like fade stop and pin routes. Michigan will also return to strong play action passing attack off the running game.
You will see the quarterback get rid of the ball very quickly. We will not see the five and seven drop steps as we saw so much in the old passing game. A lot of quick passes where the quarterback gets it and releases it right away which means screens, screens and more screens, but this year we will have athletes that have a wiggle to make defenders miss and make big gains out of them.
