Mailbag Question: Regarding McGuffie

Hey Guys,

Been reading the boards at GBW the last few days and saw where Eroc said that he is concerned because McGuffie was turning his back in practice like he saw last year in his high school games.

My questions are what does it matter and why do you hate on a freshman running back that could be the future if not now starter?

Thanks for the question. It matter for two reasons:

1) Is you will get hurt when one of those nasty, tear your head off safeties puts a helmet in his ribs or small of his back.

2) Is you will miss cuts and blocks if you are not running in proper form. Missing a cut back or block can cost a team a first down or big play. We here do not hate on any one, just pointing out areas of players games that concern us. That is one thing we will always do here is give you our take on things and we will not give you the lollipop and roses version. There are plenty of web pages and blog pages that will do that covering Michigan.

The thing is when you turn your back you cannot see the field ahead of you or the direction you are suppose to go … north and south. A running backs head needs to be on a swivel along with always looking forward. You cannot gain positive yards by turning your back.
