Mailbag question: Football prediction
I really appreciate being able to read your blog.
If you do not mind, I have a questions for you. First, what is your prediction as far as next year's football record? It just cannot go anywhere but up, can it? The quarterback play can't be worse and the offensive line has to be better. Thanks for your time.

Thanks for the question and comments.
We do not mind any questions at all and try to answer them as honestly as we can.
Last year we predicted 7-5. The team should of had more than three wins.
We are using 6-6 as a baseline for 2009. In our opinion, there is enough talent, and considering Michigan's schedule, 6-6 is very doable. If Michigan ends up 8-4 or better that would be an outstanding season result. Our main goal for this team, just like last year's, was to gain experience and get into a bowl game. We believe this team can be at least a 7-5 team, but we're keeping expectations low right until, this spring, we see for ourselves what this team has "under the hood."
Anything below 6-6 would be a disappointment for us. We are reserving judgment on the quarterback situation until we see how Forcier is doing at spring practice. We think he isa much better fit and has more overall talent than last year's quarterbacks.
The big question is how fast will Forcier adapt to college football, and how healthy can stay? As for the offensive line, our concern is that they have the five who played most of last season topped out, unable to continue to improve and grow. Let's hope not.
In our opinion, some of the freshmen have more talent and ability than some of the returners. So one of the things we are interested in learning is will Coach Rod and staff break up last year's starters and bet on talent and future potential, or do they stay with the more experienced older guys that might produce more this year, but not be the long-term answer.

Last year I predicted Michigan would go 5-7. After the first game and I was able to watch the offense, especially the QBs, I changed my thoughts to 4-8. I based my predictions from following RR thru his coaching career.
It's easy to say things can't get much worse, but we all know it can. But with that said, I definately see Michigan finishing 7-5 this year with a great chance of going 8-4. While Threet was a RS Frosh, he was pretty much a true Frosh in last years offense. Forcier will have just as much time if not more than what Threet had to get ready for this offense, and I think Forcier is a better overal QB and athlete. There are still some questions on the OL and most improvement is seen from season one to season two, I think the OL will see huge improvements in this area...only one player had experience on the OL last year and it showed. That was just the beginning.
