Mailbag question: Other Wolverines

Hey man,

Everyone's been talking about Vincent Smith and Tate Forcier this Spring. That is fine, but what about other Wolverines. How are guys like Terrence Robinson and Patrick Omameh doing so far? What is our receiving core looking like with Matthews, Stonum and Hemingway? It is great that our incoming freshmen are showing promise, but I want to hear about our team's progress from last year.

Thanks,

Nate

Thanks for the question.

Patrick Omameh might be the most talented offensive linemen we have. He is a very good athlete with long arms and great feet. He has probably the quickest feet among the offensive linemen. He is still a work in progress, but the talent is definitely there.

Terrence Robinson was set back quite a bit by his injury last season. He was primarily a tailback in high school and needs to learn not only how to pay slot, but also some of the finer points of being a receiver.

Split ends are about the same as last year. Mathews has the best hands, Hemingway is still trying to play catch up from all the missed time, and Stonum is the most talented, and the only true deep threat in the group. Our concern with slots and split ends after this weekend is there just too many dropped passes for us to be overly excited.

One thing about the passing game -- they are looking at the tight end / split ends a lot more than last year, but in scrimmage format, the main targets are still the slot receivers. In drills and seven on seven, they try to spread it around. Hopefully Tate, over the summer and in fall camp, will feel more comfortable and spread the ball around.
