Coaches Corner: Player Development and The Michigan Tackling System -- Part 2
Coaches Corner: Player Development and The Michigan Tackling System -- Part 2
Looking at Coach Robinson's positions and players:
Quick / Spinner / Hybrid Defensive End / Outside Linebacker
B. Herron: Very Good against the run and does nice job in blitz packages, needs some work in coverage.
M. Evans: In our opinion, perfect fit as strong side linebacker for 4-3 defense. Solid against run and does nice job rushing passer, not as good in coverage as would prefer.
Watson: Very good position change, moves better than expected. Did nice job as defensive end with hand on ground in that package. Coverage needs work.
Lalota: Needs to improve strength and quickness, red-shirt would be huge help.
Weak side Linebackers:
Brown: New tackling system seemed to help, leader of defense and most vocal member. Much better fit at linebacker than ever was at safety.
Hawthorne: Very quick and athletic, always active. Feet are always moving and finishes tackles. Needs top get stronger and add some weight.
Jones: Really like this kid, very explosive and excellent closing speed. Might have been best blitzer this spring. If he picks up coverage's, he could really help this year.
