Mailbag question: Quarterback Recruit Tim Smith
Rumors are that Christian Green has dropped
Michigan, as has Robert Bolden and Jeffrey Godfrey
will stay in Florida.
That leaves Munchie Legaux and Cornelius Jones as
the last two quarterbacks with a Michigan offer, and both
seem like a long shot. It would seem that Coach Rod wants
two quarterbacks in every class, any idea why he hasn't
offered Tim Smith from Ft. Pierce Florida, he has
some nice offers so far, and he seems like a real
sleeper, with lots of potential as a dual threat
QB.

Thanks for the question.
Well in our opinion we would guess there are two factors.
1) Is Michigan took two dual threat quarterbacks in 2009 recruiting class and Forcier is progressing faster than thought and will be starting this fall most likely.
Along with the fact they received a verbal commit from one of the better dual threat quarterbacks in the country in Devin Gardner which sometimes scares off other big name quarterbacks with so many young talented quarterbacks on the roster.
A lot of times kids want to come in and play early and seeing three players with four years of eligibility and one not even on campus yet scares some away.
2) Is Michigan short on scholarships and has a lot of holes on defense to fill.

I agree that Michigan needs to pick up some Defense players. Still with only 3 QBs that may fit RR schemes, i'd have to believe he would want another 1 if he could get 1, and more next year, if not he wouln't put other QB offers out there. Interesting tidbit i heard on Tim Smith is that he would commit to Michigan the day they offered, if they ever did.
