Mailbag question:

Eroc and Coach,

Are we done with RB/Slot guys now? We got three - four guys last year (McGuffie, Shaw, T-Rob and Odoms) that could play the slot/speed RB. This year we got two more (Jones and Toussaint).Seems like these guys could all play the same positions (Slot and RB).How will these new guys fit into the system? Also how will all these young guys mesh with each other at the same position?

Does this mean Clemons will move back out to SE now with these young guys coming in this year and next?

Thanks for the question. Very good question as well.

Clemons will possibly move back to Split End if the freshmen can get the job done, or if Carlos brown comes back from his injury and can play slot. Performance of the other players will play biggest factor in what happens to Clemons.

I think Michigan is taking as many of these types of players because there was none on the roster when they arrived here. The offense requires two slots most of the time, and third much of the time when in empty. In addition, there is no guarantee that any of the 2008 recruiting class slots will be as good as projected. You also needed to be at least two deep at the slot position.

That means you need at least four of them. Do not underestimate the value these players will have on special teams. Michigan’s return game was embarrassing last year. And would not be surprised to see T-Rob and Odoms returning punts and Shaw, Stonum and McGuffie helping on kick off returns.
