Mailbag question:

Hey guys,

I see you guys haven't really addressed the Justin Boren deal of him leaving and now going to Ohio State. How do you guys feel about that along with your take on the whole situation.

From what you seen at practices how much is Michigan going to miss him and do we have capable guys to replace him this year?

Thanks for the question. You have to look at the Boren situation in two ways, short term, and then long-term effect. In the short term, this is a huge lose for Michigan. Boren was our most experienced offensive linemen and quite possibly our best. He also played the game with a toughness and edge that is going to be tough to replace in the short term. His loss puts a big stress on the offensive lines already stressed depth. No other way to spin this in short term but a as major negative.

In the long term, it is best that Michigan and Boren split ways. He was obviously not happy at Michigan and had some difficulties with the new Michigan regime. Having an unhappy player, regardless of talent is not a good thing. Michigan is better off in the long term playing with guys who are truly happy to be part of the Michigan team.Wish Justin luck in the future, except when he plays against Michigan of course. My only disappointment was his parting shots. Wish he had just said it time for Michigan and me to part and left it at that.
