Mailbag Question: Regarding toughest to play

Coach,

Whom will Michigan have more problems facing this year? Teams like Wisconsin and Ohio State being the bigger more physical power teams or the spread type teams that Michigan has struggled with in the past.

Thank you,

Rod

Thanks for the question. Do not think it is style of play that will make the difference, but overall talent of the team.

From defense standpoint, teams that play nickel well will give new Michigan most problems. Teams with superior nickel and outside linebackers generally have most success against pure spread teams. In addition, teams with two outstanding defensive tackles who can push the line of scrimmage backwards and collapse the pocket make life more difficult for spread teams.

If you can stop the run, out of against most spread teams, especially quarterback read teams you have a much better chance of being successful against them. In our opinion teams that make Michigan play game at their tempo or who can play up tempo with Michigan will be the most difficult opponents.
