Just let the Irish stew: Tradition says a U-M rout is in store
Rich Rodriguez is trying. He's trying very, very hard to embrace all the storied Michigan traditions, right down to the extensive use of the punt formation.
To his credit, he got the program's annual hype-deflating loss out of the way quickly. He also already has caused stubbornly arrogant Michigan fans (redundancy alert!) to pine for an era when everything was better, even if it wasn't.
Ah, but here comes the big test: Will Rodriguez continue the newest Michigan tradition of pounding Notre Dame so brutally, Charlie Weis displays sweat stains in bodily areas that normally don't produce sweat?
I understand the Michigan-Notre Dame rivalry has been downgraded lately to a light scrimmage (pads optional, helmets suggested). Pretending this is a huge game is like putting lipstick on a pig -- or to avoid a political brouhaha, lipstick on a Leprechaun.
