Overview:
He has a good combination of size and athletic ability. He could play either defensive end or offensive tackle. In our opinion he has more upside at offensive tackle, but more than enough talent to be a very good defensive end. He is a very good get for Coach Rod and the Michigan staff, especially in light of the recent problems with fellow New Jersey recruit Marcus Witherspoon.
Strengths:
At offensive tackle, Lolata sets up in pass protection well and plays with his knees bent. He is also very good and very quick on his feet. He would make an excellent left tackle.
At defensive end he does a nice job of maintaining outside leverage. He is also technically sound in his positional play. He uses his long arms to beat offensive tackles on the pass rush. He is better suited to play on strong side in our opinion. He does not show the explosive get off needed to be a pure edge rusher.
Needs Work:
He has a tendency to play high. He needs to get his pads down and play with leverage. Also needs to add some weight and strength, and has a frame that should enable him to do so. He should also benefit from working out with Coach Barwis.
