Rodriguez: Spread is working well 'at times'

ANN ARBOR -- Michigan coach Rich Rodriguez has not minced words when discussing the Wolverines as they transition under a new staff.

Monday, he said the return game has been "atrocious," and Tuesday he was asked during the Big Ten teleconference how the offense has responded to the installation of his spread scheme.

"Not going well for the most part, but it's going well at times," Rodriguez said.

Rodriguez said there was never any question he was going to run the spread at Michigan even though the personnel didn't exactly lend itself to that style.

"It really wasn't even a decision to make -- that's what we do," he said. "That's the offense I've been running for 17 years.
