ANN ARBOR -- Krista Phillips talked about raising banners during Media Day for Michigan on Tuesday afternoon at Crisler Arena. She has reason to be optimistic.

Phillips helped the Wolverines go from a 20-loss team in Cheryl Burnett's final season two years ago to a 19-win team last season in Kevin Borseth's first year as coach.

Phillips, a 6-foot-6 junior center, is among three returning starters from last year's WNIT quarterfinal team. U-M (19-14, 9-9 Big Ten) was competitive in conference play, ending a nine-game losing streak to Michigan State and an 18-gamer to Purdue in the process.

"We have big goals," Phillips said. "We see ourselves as Big Ten champs, and we don't believe it's out of our reach. Our goal is to hang some banners. We want to play in the NCAA Tournament.
